Turnover, burnout, stalled innovation, and a workforce that\u2019s present but disengaged.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the opportunity: this gap is solvable\u2014and the upside is big. Organizations that close this gap don\u2019t just feel better, they perform better. Employees who feel a strong sense of belonging at work are significantly less likely to quit. In some studies, workers with high belonging are up to <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2833183\">seven times more likely<\/a> to stay than those who feel excluded.<\/p>\n<p>Research consistently underscores the benefit of workplace connections. For example, employees who have a friend at work are up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/397058\/increasing-importance-best-friend-work.aspx\">seven times more engaged<\/a>. Those with strong social support are significantly <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2017\/06\/burnout-at-work-isnt-just-about-exhaustion-its-also-about-loneliness\">less likely to experience burnout<\/a>. And workplaces with a strong culture of connection generally see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0090261617300761\">higher retention<\/a>, better learning and <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1177\/0149206315584822\">knowledge sharing<\/a>, greater <a href=\"https:\/\/sloanreview.mit.edu\/article\/how-to-catalyze-innovation-in-your-organization\/\">innovation<\/a>, and improved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmdhealthservices.com\/blog\/the-importance-of-social-connections-in-the-workplace\/\">worker wellbeing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Connection doesn\u2019t just support the work\u2014it powers it.<\/p>\n<h2>The Hidden Cost of Disconnection<\/h2>\n<p>Financial services runs on precision and performance. But behind the quarterly reports and digital dashboards, there\u2019s a more human equation in play. And right now, that equation is breaking down.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Mercer\u2019s 2023\u20132024 \u201cInside Employees\u2019 Minds\u201d study found that while employee engagement rose in many sectors, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercer.com\/en-us\/insights\/talent-and-transformation\/attracting-and-retaining-talent\/navigating-the-new-world-at-work-financial-services-industry\/#:~:text=While%20engagement%20increased%20on%20average,are%20considering%20leaving%20their%20employer\">declined in financial services<\/a>, where workers were less likely to feel a sense of belonging to their team.<\/p>\n<p>That same year, Deloitte found almost half (45%) of women in senior leadership roles at large U.S. financial firms said they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/us\/en\/insights\/industry\/financial-services\/improve-employee-engagement.html\">likely to leave<\/a> their employer within a year (41% for next generation women).<\/p>\n<p>Employees across the industry are increasingly isolated. They feel unseen by leaders, unsupported, and unsure of their future within the organization.
